The Admiral

A retired sea captain, the Admiral brought his life's love home to shore with him: the Grey Lady is now rather permanently moored in the Admiral's backyard, neatly dividing the plum tree from juicy rows of swiss chard. He spends his days aboard ship, more often than not in the midst of a mutinous battle with the children of the neighborhood. In his odd quiet moments, the Admiral retreats to the Captain's quarters to work on his memoirs, while delicately sipping on Myrtle the Tyrtle's latest batch of exquisite dandelion wine.

Some other incarnations

I quickly realized that there are lots of cat lovers out there! I began offering custom finishes ("To match your cat!"), and these proved quite popular. Below are a few of interest!

A community theater group here in RI commissioned this custom finish, when they were putting on HMS Pinafore. It was a gift to their director, who also played the part of "the Admiral" in the play. I sat in the audience and sketched (making the castmembers quite curious), and translated the costume and facial hair (the subject was a redhead, going grey) into what you see here!

Finished for a customer with a penchant for purple!
A "warrior" finish.
This was for a customer who wanted to enshrine their cat, Fritz, who is actually a female kitty, with an apparent flair a la Liberace. I imagined the Admiral taking a trip to Vegas, having a bit too much grog, and ending up in a Cage aux Folles number under the spotlight. Yee-ha!
